When The Rain Comes

How My Thoughts Are Helping Me Work Through Depression

“When the rain comes, it rains, but it doesn’t stay…” — Jim Carrey

After years of letting depression rule my life, I’m now passionate about examining my thoughts to see how they can work for me, not against me.

If you have depression, and you’re not yet at this point, don’t give up.

I’ve been where you’re at.

Just a couple of years ago, this quote would have left me feeling even more numb and hopeless, because in my world, the rain was always falling and I couldn’t imagine a day when it would stop.

I felt I was at the mercy of my thoughts.

Even on my “up” days, I found myself holding back from full happiness because I didn’t want to be caught off guard when the thoughts came back.

And they always did.

I’m not good enough. Happiness is for other people, not me. Who am I to think… I can achieve that goal, live that life, have those kinds of friendships, make that kind of money, be that person?

My thoughts ran my life.

For decades, I let them kill my goals, distance my relationships, hold me back from ever truly experiencing any emotion to the fullest.
