Shannon, I’m sorry for what you’re going through. I’ve been there myself many times — even recently. This is just temporary— part of life’s ups and downs. I think you already sense what your mind and body might need. Trust your instincts. Don’t wait to get help if your instincts tell you this is more than just the blues. Don’t make this period mean anything about your worthiness or ability to write — that does us no good. Trust me, you’re talking to the queen of assigning meanings to circumstances that only served to hurt me worse. You ARE a writer, and a damn good one. These feelings of inadequacy are temporary. The fact that you’re still writing is great. Keep going, whether on Medium or in a private journal. Work through your thoughts. You’ve done such an inspiring job going all out to create this amazing new life for you and your daughter, but remember, even superheroes get down on themselves and need to reset their minds once in a while. Also, Gay Hendricks has an “upper limit” theory — where everything seems to be going swimmingly and all of the sudden you wonder when the other shoe’s going to drop and you get this sense of foreboding and start doubting yourself. It’s a very real phenomenon. If this sounds like something you’re experiencing, there’s some great articles about it in HuffPost and by Marie Forleo. Take care and above all, be kind to yourself. — Kari
