Are You Living Life on Autopilot?
Is your subconscious mind calling the shots?
Autopilot is a tool or software that can control and direct movement of an aircraft in certain situations without direct pilot intervention. Route data is uploaded to the software before the flight. When the autopilot is activated, the aircraft is able to stay on course, operating seemingly “automatically”, but it does so within the confines of the software program and the pilot’s commands.*
In short, autopilot can be both a tool of efficiency and preservation, depending on the circumstance.
The same applies to our brain.
When we move through life “on autopilot”, our subconscious mind is “thinking” for us. We are operating within the confines of our own programming. Without conscious awareness, we go through the motions based on what’s available to us given what we’ve thought, felt, or done in the past.
While the “autopilot” function is critical for certain aspects of our lives (breathing, eating, sleeping, essential activities of daily living, self-preservation in the wake of trauma, etc.), we need conscious thought if we want to do anything outside of our existing programming.
